"The 2009 USA Cycling Masters Track National Championships was held at the 7-Eleven Velodrome in Colorado Springs during the week of August 18. The two months leading up to Nationals I was dragging myself to the Velodrome and at the same time dreading the thought of a lack luster performance. However, the evening of August 20 proved differently. I managed to win a coveted Stars-and-Stripes
jersey by dominating my top competitor in the Points Race. The next morning turned out to be another fast
day of racing as I posted a new world record time of 13.55 seconds for women 55
– 59 in the Flying 200-Meter Time Trial.
That time gave me the top seeding position for the Match Sprints later that
evening. In a best of three rides I took
two straight wins and earned another Stars-and-Stripes jersey!
I attribute part my success with two Master Track titles in
2009 to thirty years of racing experience.
The other part of that winning formula was adding a weekly Pilates reformer
class to my conditioning routine. To
make a comparison, in 2002, at age 50, I set my first world record in the
Flying 200-Meter Time Trial with a time of 12.95 seconds. I trained smart on the bike and had a strict conditioning
program. Now, seven years older, age 57,
I have set another world record and have been training smart again. However, this time I attribute my new record
to the conditioning help I have received from ReVibe Pilates &
Bodywork. The core conditioning on the ‘reformer’,
under the guidance of Trish Stahl, made critical improvements in my muscle
endurance and power transmission.
Endurance and power are important because they help me sustain an
extremely high intensity effort that is needed to accelerate the track bike and
maintain top end speed during a Flying 200-Meter effort and the endurance
needed for multiple rounds of match sprinting.
Another component I utilized was ReVibes’ Bodywork. Periodic sessions with massage therapist Kenny
Stahl kept my muscles recovered and relaxed.
Also, lymphatic work on an injury to my left knee a month away from the
Championships provided needed relief and healing to get me ‘back on track’.
Thanks to ReVibe for making my 2009 Nationals a rewarding
success,"
